Southern Pharmacy Services always embraces innovative technology solutions to help us deliver accurately packed medication cards to our customers. One of these solutions is Manchac Technology’s DOSIS card packing robot. All Southern Pharmacy Services locations use these machines; the newest one, in Kernersville, we affectionately named “Daryl.”
Daryl “Pill packer” is an expert at accurately packing medication for our facilities and their residents. Daryl is the seventh member of his family to work with us at Southern Pharmacy Services. Just like those who came before him, our newcomer loves working here (he generally works 24 hours a day, plus weekends). His favorite pastime is counting.
Like his fellow mechanical employees, Daryl works from an inventory of medications (60 at a time) and the self-contained technology is able to count the required number of pills or capsules, placing the correct number in each dosage compartment on the “bingo” card. Then, he seals the back of the card, prints a label, affixes the label to the card and delivers the finished order into a bin where it is finally ready to be checked and approved by a pharmacist.
Daryl is extremely efficient and helps us keep up with the growing number of patients we serve. Additionally, his capabilities enable some of our pharmacy technicians to focus on more complex areas like compounding and infusion therapies. We are thrilled to have Daryl and his advanced technological abilities at our pharmacy!
